On 02.08.2024 the twenty-third FFTCG set will be released: Hidden Trails!
And we have the chance to introduce you to one of the few Limit Break cards from this set, a relatively new card type that was only introduced to the TCG in the previous set Hidden Hope. This
card also features a character that has never before appeared in this particular form in the FFTCG.
The Card
Vincent
5CP, Fire
Forward
Job: Galian Beast
Category: VII
8000 Power
Code: 23-119R
Limit Break -- 2
First Strike
When Vincent enters the field, you may put 1 Fire Backup you control into the Break Zone. When you do so, choose 1 Foward opponent controls. Deal it 9000 damage.
Background Lore
Vincent Valentine is known to many as an optional playable character from Final Fantasy VII, but also as the protagonist of Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII.
His genetically modified body allows him to take on the form of various powerful creatures. In the game, this ability is represented as his Limit Break, whose first form is the so-called Galian
Beast, which resembles the Behemoth from Final Fantasy VII in the original version of the game. In this form, Vincent's status values increase enormously at times and he can no longer be
controlled.
One of his attacks in this Limit Break form is called Beast Flare, causing fire damage (which can lead to healing fire based enemies in his uncontrollable state). Therefore this card is correctly placed in the fire element, giving us the first fire card of Vincent in the FFTCG.

Playability
Vincent is now the third known Fire Limit Break card alongside [22-112R] Zack and [22-113L] Mont Leonis, which we already received in the previous set Hidden Hope. In addition to him, we also
expect another Limit Break card in the Fire element in Hidden Trails.
Due to his Limit Break cost 2, Vincent can be played at most twice in a match before we no longer have enough Limit Break cards to reveal them as costs.
With 8000 strength and first strike, Vincent is a forward who should not be underestimated, as damage from abilities or summons is always to be expected, especially in Fire, and Vincent can
therefore quickly win a fight with his first strike.
If we place a Fire backup that we control into the Break Zone when we play Vincent, we can inflict 9000 damage on an enemy Forward, which is enough for most characters in the game. We can also
use the fact that we lose a backup to our advantage. For example, [14-007L] Garland lets us draw a card whenever a backup is moved from the field to the Break Zone. [18-110H] Xande deals 9000
damage to as many of our opponent's forwards when he enters the field as the number of characters we have moved from our field to the Break Zone this turn, and [20-066R] Ignis brings a forward
from the Break Zone back into our hand when one of our backups is moved from the field to the Break Zone. With the latter two, we are of course talking about Fire/Earth decks.
With a [20-013C] Culinarian, the gap in the backup line can even be closed for free if we still control at least 3 Fire Backups after Vincent has taken one from us. And since [1-107L] Shantotto
has all elements except Light and Darkness, she can also be sent to the Break Zone by Vincent to make room for another copy of Shantotto if we need to stop an enemy Forward overload. Basically,
it can be useful to create a space for a new Backup if we have another one with a useful effect in hand to fill that space.
Just the fact that Vincent is another Limit Break card makes him playable, of course, but his abilities also give us more exciting options for future matches.

[20-013C] Gourmet

Conclusion
As a limit break card in a so far small pool of options, Vincent will definitely find his way into many decks around the element of fire. As a solid forward that can be played at virtually any
time with an ability that deals 9000 damage, you can always count on him as a threat, while at the same time he can withstand some of your opponent's attacks with first strike. We see Vincent as
a great new addition to Fire decks and are excited to see how he performs.
