2 years of the FFTCG - Thank you!

Prologue (from Thaz)

Everything started with an Opus IV Pre-Release... My first step into a local game store, my first experience with a TCG community. I enjoyed every second of it!

It followed up with a few articles, some small projects like "Guides for newcomers - from a newcomer". So quite beginner friendly. And I got the great offer, to work for this amazing web page. I met a lot of people from the community and found a lot of friends.

Before German Nationals I have been asked if I wanted to host the stream - what an honor! Working behind the scenes with SQUARE ENIX was a great experience.

This followed up with the allowance, to organise our very first tournament: the Grand Open. It was an indescribable feeling!

Every so often, enthusiastic players tell me, how surprised they are, that an established company like SQUARE ENIX is working so closely with the community. Especially Tim Schilder (Assistant Manager - Table Top Games at SE) who is really popular and respected by the German community. Players love to take part in tournaments organised by him, for example at DOTA-Lan in Volkmarsen. Because they are such a highlight, they are also gathering a large number of the playerbase. On top of that he helps the community whenever they have a question or problem.

I am not alone with these experiences in terms of the FFTCG. The Berlin community (my home community) also had some really precious moments with this game. And because of that we put this pre-release under a special theme, after all, it was a "2 year anniversary": Why only have a premium deckbox, if you could look really posh yourself?

Opus VII Pre-Release (Berlin)

Visiting your local game store in a suit or dress? For a pre-release - definately!
Visiting your local game store in a suit or dress? For a pre-release - definately!

"Dress as elegant as you can for the pre-release!"

That was the request the Berlin community decided to fulfill. And everybody did what was asked from them! And so we celebrated the new set with tophat and tie.

Limit Break Berlin also shared our group picture on facebook and it looks like even Tarou Kageyama (Producer of the FFTCG) commented our efforts:

"What an effort for a pre-release"

The mood was great, next to veteran players we also had newcomers joining. We received our deckbox with joy ("This one looks really high class!") and also the Sealed format was really exciting (Darvill: "Opus VII is a great set for limited - I can't wait to draft with it!").

Sin destroyed the field, Snow was dulling whatever he could and Krile gave us a lot of surprise summons.

But every great pre-release has an end. 14 members of the Berlin community decided to go out and eat together. Next to asian delicacies we had something else on the menu: Theorycrafting, reviews about the new cards and longing for the next draft.

The effort behind developing the FFTCG is incredibly extensive - whoever had a tiny glimpse behind the scenes will agree. But nevertheless, SQUARE ENIX' FFTCG-team never ceases to amaze and surprise us with great ideas, especially for the pre-releases. New players that just started with their very first TCG kind of got their starter equipment with a dice and sleeves. Well, there was a lot of discussion about the freeze token, but in the end they have been a really creative und unique gimick! And everybody was in love with the deck box!

Long story short:

Thank you very much for these two great years!

Let's make the following just as great!

Thanks to the following communities for sharing their pictures with us: Berlin, Bremen, NRW

Thanks from our team and the community

Two years FFTCG - and I do not regret a single minute I invested into this amazing hobby! Not only did I grow more on the Final Fantasy universe, I was also allowed to meet a lot of people, that I don't want to miss in my life anymore. And that's why I want to say: Thank you! Thanks for a great game, that is connecting and fascinating so many people beyond borders! Thank you for the pre-releases with all their great and new gimmicks on top! And thanks for all the matches, that, because of the complex possibilities, make the game always thrilling and feel like rocket science sometimes. Thanks for two wonderful years!

This game exists for two years now and even if we had to face a lot of problems, we should never forget all the positive highlights we experienced this year.

Thanks for a fantastic Grand Open, the Spring Cup at the RPC and everthing else, that you make happen for us and deal with.

We appreciate all your doing. Thanks Tim!

A much better community than and other TCG so far ^^. Helpfulness is an omnipresent attitude.

It has been 2 years since I bought my first 3 displays and not touched them for almost a month. Back then I wanted to find people to play with, before I open them. Which happened really fast and since then, I have done a lot with these people. Visited events together (doing driving service), had some arguments but also private activities.
Much has changed in these 2 years. The promos, either for pre-release or weekly tournaments, have been a real highlight for me. I would prefer it still if promos would be unique cards. But I am also really satisfied with the alternative artworks. I really like the goodies we get with each kit and hope we will get more of them in future - it's always nice to collect things like that.

The way to qualify for the German Nationals has also improved a lot in my eyes. Last year we only had 8 events to quality, this years a lot of them have been granted to us.

Events like the various cups are also something I like. Unfortunately not all of them are affordable or as easy to reach as events in Germany. So I would still appreciate it to get more of them.

I really participate in a lot of events in Germany, cause it is always a good way to meet people again that became important to me.

That's also a big positive: the community has mostly only friendly and helpful people. That makes it easy to connect with them on tournaments and you never feel lonely.

I am a big fan of the 2 deck and BO3 format. I don't like BO1. It's unbalanced and you have almost no time to adjust to it. And if you have bad draws, that's like always a game loss. And that's sad.

Titleformat is also one of my favorites. Sure, there is a lot of things that could need adjusting, but I still appreciate that there is a format where you can play your favorite title.

Card balancing is also done really well. I, for example, like cards like Noctis or other cards based on taking damage points. I need that kick of having that 6th point of damage, when every turn could be your last. I would love to see more cards that play with the damage points like that.

Also big thanks to Tim, who is supporting us since day one. Always at our side when there was a question, always answering them. I am glad he is the one working for Square Enix and I hope he will continue supporting the players and community all around the globe by representing our interests.

Also thanks to Square, for making that came happen. I am a big fan and passionate player of card games.

Also not forgetting that the people playing this game are also contributing. Greetings and thanks to all the people, doing web pages, providing content and organise tournaments on their own.

Also thanks to everyone who supports me and especially my team: Limit Break Berlin!

Thank you. Thanks to you, we are still playing!

Any other hobby barely influenced my life, my contacts and my free time as much, as the FFTCG in the last two years. I have gained a lot of friends and spend a lot of time with then even outside the FFTCG, like playing tabletop games all night long. I have travelled across germany, even went to the Netherlands or UK for tournaments. But I also spend a lot of money and time into this hobby, to complete my card collection, but also to keep this website running and give enthusiastic players a plattform. There was a lot of success, but almost as much failures and still I do not regret anything I invested into it :)

Especially the Grand Open in Bochum this year was a little bit like a dream come true. I always wanted to organise an event. While back then I was always thinking of a Gaming-Tournament, it now became a TCG-tournament. Over 100 people followed our call and challenged each other for a slot at the european championship. An amount I would have never imagined as we planned everything. And we got so much positive feedback, that it took me a few weeks to realise, what we accomplished. I want to say thanks to every single team member, every supporter abd helper and Square Enix for giving us this chance! <3

Many thanks also for every developed friendship, every contact, every nice conversation and of course every challenging game. You are the ones making this hobby the way it is, you are the crazy part that makes me spend so much money in it. Many, many thanks! <3
